20 according to my earnest expectation and hope that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ will be magnified in my body, whether by life or by death. 21 For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
Philippians 1:20-21 (NKJV)
The LORD has been really good to us over the past seven days. Last Saturday, we got to spend some time with Melinda’s parents, sister, nephew, and our kids. Sunday, we had an amazing blessing at our church, Lakeview Baptist. Yesterday, we found out that insurance has approved for Melinda to be treated with the Cyberknife in Austin. Our daughter came in last night for Father’s day and our son will be in today. God is Good.
We also got a chance to go to Pepper Creek Trail last night for a walk. Megan ran a few miles while Melinda and I peacefully walked and talked enjoying all the beauty of God’s creation. In Genesis 2:17, God warns that eating from the tree of knowledge will bring about death. Death in this world is the one sure thing that all mankind has in common. The question is where will you spend your life after your death in this world; Heaven or Hell? What will you do for Christ while you are here in this world?
During our walk, Melinda and I discussed the goodness of God as we admired the flowers along our path. We discussed how strong Paul was in prison. My paraphrasing; Paul basically said I will do what I can for the glory of Christ while I am here, and when I die I will praise him more in Heaven. That was the sentiment that Melinda was trying to convey to me as we walked. She said I don’t know why all of this has happened but as long as I’m here I want to live like Christ and spread his gospel to as many as I can.
I have heard it said that the two things you can count on in this life our death and taxes. I would add you can also count on salvation through Jesus Christ, our LORD by accepting his Gospel. Jesus died on the cross for our sins. It is through his sacrifice you come to the father; John 14:6. If you do not have a personal relationship with Jesus, what are you waiting for? You never know when your time on this earth will run out.
