Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.
2 Corinthians 4:16
A port, some chemo, and a little radiation kinda sounds like the start to a bad joke; however, the past few days have been filled with more tears than laughs, but we still try to stop and appreciate the beauty of the life we have and the many blessing God has given us. After all, as we look at the news, we are reminded it could be a lot worse. We pray for our nation and the majority that have not found the narrow road (Matthew 7:13-14).
I woke this morning, had a cup of coffee, watched a little In the Woods with Phil (laughed), prayed, read some in Romans, then got Melinda up to take her to Austin for her radiology appointment. It was short as expected. They just needed to confirm that she wanted to be treated with radiation again using the CyberKnife. Of course, she said yes, so they will be starting the process. The first step is for insurance to approve it, so please pray for that. Once approved she will have an MRI and be fitted for another face mask that holds her head in the correct position for treatments. They will also determine how many treatments she will need. We will update on radiation treatments as we know more.
When we got back home, we got a call about having the port put in so they can administer the chemo medicine, Avastin. Melinda will have the port put in next week. The following day she will have her first chemo treatment with Avastin. Avastin apparently has some possible nasty side effects as we have to go through medical counseling then Melinda has to sign off that she accepts the risk before they administer the first dose. On the positive side, the radiologist said Avastin usually works better than Temodar in his experience at this point in treatments. Needless to say, we are both a little worried as to how Melinda will react to the Avastin.
Overall Melinda is doing good. She keeps smiling and saying God is in Control. I wish I had her strength, deminer, and optimism. I have a bit more pessimism in me than I would like as God and I have discussed in recent months. I am trying to see the glass as half full instead of half empty.
Please pray for Our country, please pray for Texas and those recovering from the recent floodwaters, please pray for Melinda and all those fighting Cancers, and please pray that God will find his way back into our schools.
If you are on the broad road headed for the wide gate I have to tell you it is HOT on the other side. There is a narrow road that will lead you to everlasting water. If you are looking for the narrow road just ask us; we would love to tell you how to find it.
